Best Places to Visit In Maine in the Fall

You know Fall is here when you feel a cool autumn breeze, notice the change in color of the trees, and people are wearing their flannel. So, we wanted to share what we thought were the best places to visit in Maine during the fall season.

Enjoy Drinking And Eating Through Portland, ME.

Portland, ME, is known not just to have top-notch food, but you can also enjoy a nice pumpkin ale at a brewery on every corner. This city also has a great music scene. In early October, come enjoy “Flannel Jam”, the music festival where you can enjoy live music, food trucks, IPAs, cider, art, handmade goods, and more!

Experience The First Sunrise In The U.S.

Head to the top of Cadillac Mountain in Maine's beautiful Acadia National Park. Drive up to the summit in the early hours of the morning (don't forget to make a reservation) to experience the first rays of sunshine with a nice cup of joe to warm you up. Then, after sunrise, you can head to the Jordan Pond House to enjoying the beautiful view of the lake and a popover.

The L.L.Bean Boot

You haven't experienced Maine if you didn't go to L.L.Bean and get your flannel. Shopping in Freeport is a fun experience for everyone; you can even take a family photo in front of the 16-foot tall bean boot right in front of their flagship store.

Exploring Ice Caves in Northern Maine

Enjoy spelunking? Experience "nature's air conditioning" in an ice cave. In the Debsconeag Lakes Wilderness area, you will come across ice caves that stay frozen year-round! Native Americans possibly used these caves to store meat to help sustain a tribe all summer. I recommend traveling early fall before it gets too cold!

Go, Apple Picking

Experience one of the best New England Fall activities! Apple picking is fun for the whole family; finding an apple orchard is not hard to come by. Have fun picking apples and drinking apple cider and donuts while admiring the beautiful scenery.

Go On A Spooky Tour

Stephen King, one of the most well-known horror authors, calls Bangor, ME, his hometown,. As you may be aware, most of his stories are based in Maine. The Stephen King tours of Maine offer fans an opportunity to tour the filming locations and places inspired by his novels, such as IT and Insomnia. The perfect trip to take on Halloween!

Go Hiking in Baxter State Park

Maine's northern region will come alive in the fall with a wide range of beautiful colors in late September-early October. Great to explore nature by going hiking, kayaking, and snapping some amazing pictures.
